FOR JANET Death! You who lurks behind the shadows of the poor and sick man's door. A thief, you come uninvited, unexpectedly, sometimes in great haste, sometimes with slow, heavy footprints. You come to part beloved ones. You divide by gross acts, or by the subtle suicide of distant relationships, hopeless situations, negative emotions. You come to steal away the fresh kiss of Spring, the colors of flowers the taste of food, the delight in living itself. But O! O Life! O Life, You to know. You are the one that beyond the cold, dark winter, and hidden under the snow a seed, small and quiet, but patiently waiting in simplicity because Life, O Life, You ARE the spring. And when winter is over we will see and hear and taste anew, the freshest of Springs. O Death, be still now, for those still breathing will tell you the seed will awaken tomorrow. Oh Death, where is your sting?
